Martin started his martial path when he was seven, he attended the local boxing club in Ireland and took part in many competitions on a regular basic.

He first came across Wing Chun when he was nine in the form of Bruce Lee in the film ‘Enter the dragon’, he was hooked but there were no Chinese martial arts clubs in his hometown.

He carried on with the boxing until he was aged 13 when his aunt introduced him to her neighbour who taught Lau Gar.

The weekly class was in a small church hall and the student count was low as in very early 80s the marketing process was non existent.

Martin continued the Lar Gau classes until he was eighteen before moving to Manchester to attend university. Whilst in Manchester he regularly attended a Wu Shu class during his studying.

Then with work and family came a long break…

Until he came across a few people at an annual charity event who had a wooden dummy and were trying to get people to join their Wing Chun class, this got his interest in Wing Chun started and the following week met another instructor who was also trying to get people to join his class. His class was located closer so Martin joined that class in Watford.

As part of that training Martin was able to meet up with and train with Sifu Sergio over those years and 10 years later Martin is now one of the Schools Of Kung Fu by IWKA certified instructors. He regularly attends courses and seminars run by the National instructors; SiFu Alan Paterson, Schools Of Kung Fu UK & SiFu Kul Rai, Schools Of Kung Fu England for senior students and Technicians in the UK.
